1 Thessalonians 1

Greeting

1 Paul ^aSilvanus, and Timothy,

To the church of the ^bThessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:

The Thessalonians’ Faith and Example

2 ^dWe give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly ^{▼

Or brothers and sisters. The plural Greek word adelphoi (translated “brothers”) refers to siblings in a family. In New Testament usage, depending on the context, adelphoi may refer either to men or to both men and women who are siblings (brothers and sisters) in God’s family, the church} loved by God, ^mthat he has chosen you, 5 because ⁿour gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and ^oin the Holy Spirit and with full ^pconviction. You know ^qwhat kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake. 6 And ^ryou became imitators of us ^sand of the Lord, for ^tyou received the word in much affliction ^uwith the ^vjoy of the Holy Spirit, 7 so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. 8 For not only has the word of the Lord ^wsounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth ^xeverywhere, so that we need not say anything. 9 For they themselves report concerning us the kind of ^yreception we had among you, and how ^zyou turned to God ^aafrom idols to serve the living and ^abtrue God, 10 and ^acto wait for his Son ^adfrom heaven ^aewhom he raised from the dead, Jesus ^afwho delivers us from ^agthe wrath to come.
